Battle of Gorlice

Surroundings of the Oak Deep rest house were witnessed by some of the most fierce fighting during the First World War in 1915, called the Gorlice Offensive. The battle lasted from 2 to 6 May 1915 and led to the breaking of the Eastern Front. This military campaign is considered by many historians to be one of the key operations of the Great War.

Heavy fighting in the valleys of rivers Ropa, Zdynia, Regetówka and Sękówka resulted in many casualties on both sides. The remains of the war, numerous cemeteries built after the war by the Austrians to celebrate the heroism and sacrifice of soldiers fighting in the region. The most well-known cemeteries are located on the pass Magura Małastowska, on the top of the mountain Rotunda and the pass Beskidek.
