Klimkowskie Lake
Klimkowskie Lake was built in the years 1975 - 1994 on the river Ropa and is one of the earliest man-made lakes in Poland. The accumulation of water in the dam erected height of 33 meters and a width of over 200 meters. The lake has a length of approximately 5 km. The coastline is varied, and the lake is surrounded by the beautiful peaks of Czerteżyki, Kopa, Homola and Kiczera. This beautifull part of Beskid Niski mountains is called Pieniny Gorlickie.
Climatic conditions attract windsurfing and sailing. The coast is gradually managed and Lake Klimkówka becoming an important center for water sports in the region. On the western coast of the lake there was established a recreational zone with a campsite, rent canoes and pedal boats, seasonal fast food.
It is interesting that the lake Klimkowskie was used in the famous movie "Ogniem i Mieczem" (Fire and Sword) as the Dnieper river. Main character, Jan Skrzetuski sailed boat to Sicz (region in Ukraine). This was in the early time of the lake existance, when coastal areas were not yet built-up.
